“… Eighty-five children from Jakarta took photographs of their lives – children from the rubbish dump, expatriate children and children from the orphanage. They were mostly between 8 and 12 years old. First the children learnt how to make a camera from an empty tin and with that they took their first photographs. Then they used disposable cameras to make images of their everyday lives.

The result is an impressive collection of photographs from a world that tourists never see and which would even amaze most Indonesians.

This book shows a selection of these photographs, that reflects the children’s lives – photographs of living conditions, work, learning, family and play. Every child who participated in the project has at least one of his or her photographs reproduced in the book. …”
