Rock Carvings – Jiepmaluokta Hjemmeluft, Alta

“This book deals with the rock carvings in Jiepmaluokta/Hjemmeluft in Alta, Nort Norway. Rock carvings are found also in several other areas in Alta. This work concentrates on sites which are open to the general pubic and on depictions which may be enjoyed at Alta Museum. A wide choice of rock carvings is included, and possible interpretations are presented. The rock carvings are also placed in a historical context.

Arvid Sveen is responsible for text, photos an drawings as well a for the graphic design. He is a photographer, painter and graphic designer, and lives in the town of Vadso in North Norway.

Alta museum is situated at 70 o northern latitude. The museum received the European Museum of the Year Award in 1993. The Alta rock carvings are included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List, which comprises ancient monuments particularly deserving of preservation in international terms.”
