Japan – A Pictorial Interpretation – / Le Japon – Une interpretation par l’image –

The Asahigraph (the editors)

“Foreword
The present publication is the second and revised edition of ‘Japan: A Pictorial Interpretation’, published in 1932, which was originally meant to be superseded later by entirely new collections of pictures  such as ‘Changing Japan Seen Through The Camera’, issued in 1933.
Naturally the book contains a few pictures which are no more to be seen in actuality in the rapidly changing life of present-day Japan. For this reason, the book has been out of print for several months; but the demand for it, as well as for its sequel, ‘Changing Japan Seen Through The Camera’, continues to be so large and persistent that we have thought it desirable to reprint both these books.

We are convinced that these collections of photographs are of more or less permanent value in that they mirror the life in Japan as it was at the time of their publication and as it still is but for some changes in minor details. The labours of the editors and publishers will be well recompensed if these books ar found helpful in making more foreign readers see Japan and things Japanese in their true perspective.
